Girl Guides Learning : Organisational Structure
The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) is the largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women in the world.
Here in Australia, there are Girl Guides in every state and territory, with thousands of Members across the country.

Asia Pacific Region The Asia Pacific (AP) Region has 26 Member Organisations including Australia. | |
Girl Guides Australia (GGA) The peak body for Girl Guiding in Australia. the purpose of Girl Guides Australia is to work with State Girl Guide Organisations (SGGO) to promote and enable growth and success of Girl Guiding in Australia and advocating for girls and young women nationally and internationally. | |
State Girl Guide Organisations (SGGOs) There are 6 SGGOs in Australia supporting Girl Guiding in Australia, with a purpose of through girl-led program, championing fun, friendship and adventure, empowering girls and young women to find their voice, discover their potential, explore possibilities and make a genuine difference in the world. | |
Region The majority of State Girl Guide Organisations are divided geographically into their Regions to better manage the day to day running of local Girl Guiding. | |
District State Girl Guide Organisations often (but not always) sub-divided their Regions into Districts. | |
Unit A Girl Guide Unit is usually a group of between 10-30 Youth Members. Smaller groups or Patrols of 5-8 girls are formed within that larger Unit group. Trained Adult Leaders facilitate activities that promote teamwork, skills development, problem solving and confidence building. | |
Support Group Many Units and Districts have a Support Group or management team which is usually made up of members, ongoing and casual volunteers. |
