Helen Reid - Chief Commissioner/ Chair (acting)

Helen was a Girl Guide for 7 years as a child then returned as a Unit Leader when she was 21; a role she has held for over 35 years.

Girl Guiding has provided many opportunities including travel to international events in Kenya, the UK and Switzerland. Holding positions such as National Program Manager, GGV Executive member and GGA Board Director Helen brings a wealth of knowledge about the Australian Guide Program and Governance to the role. She is committed to facilitating opportunities for girls and young women to explore and grow within Girl Guiding so that they can have a voice in their own future.

Helen is a retired librarian having managed both TAFE and University libraries with a Masters in Human Resource Management and a PhD in Librarianship. She is currently living on a farm in the Victorian Otways growing trees for shelter, conservation and profit.

Sue Belling- Director, Girl Guides NSW ACT & NT

Sue has been heavily involved in all facets of Guiding leadership and management throughout her adult life at District, Region, State and a GGA committee role.

Having lived in both regional and metropolitan areas in her previous retail career, Sue has seen the impact quality Guiding provides for all members.

Sue has previously trained across NSW & ACT and is currently mentoring new Managers. Sue understands the impact pf policy and technological change on our Volunteers and is still an active District Manager and a campsite committee member. Having been at the face of transformation change in an extensive retail career, and as an adult member of Guiding, Sue has a sound track record of leadership and collaboration and can provide a considered sounding board for strategic change in the organisation.

Frances Burns- Director, Girl Guides Queensland

Frances (Fran) began her Guiding journey as a youth member in Queensland at the age of 7. Her adult Guiding journey began 20 years ago as a Brownie Leader when her youngest daughter joined. She has been a Leader of Brownies, Guides and reopened the Ranger Guide Unit when her eldest daughter was 14.

Fran recently completed 10 years as District Manager at Victoria Point District and has now stepped into the Assistant District Manager role. With a passion for the outdoors, she is the Region Outdoor consultant and skills assessor. Her highest camping qualification is controlled expedition.

Fran has volunteered across 2 youth organisations for 20 years, working on committees both locally and internationally. A genuine people person, she thrives on being helpful and friendly and welcomes the opportunity to offer her enthusiasm to her director position.

Linda Durran - Director, Girl Guides Tasmania

Linda began her Guiding journey at the age of seven as a Brownie and moved her way up to being a Guide, Junior Leader and Leader. Linda has been a Leader in Victoria, NSW, England, Northern Territory and now in Tasmania; holding many various roles including District Manager, Region Manager, and State Commissioner whilst in the NT,

Professionally Linda worked as a Child Care Validator for NCAC, assessing many childcare services for the accreditation process, and then as a Child Care Assessor for the NT Government, again assessing Child Care Services under the NT Government scheme.

Lindsay Tagg - Director, Girl Guides Victoria

Lindsay has been a Girl Guide for more than 20 years. She has experienced everything Girl Guiding has had to offer at all levels – local, state, national and internationally – receiving both her Queens Guide and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and representing Australia a number of times. Currently a member of the Girl Guides Victoria Executive, Lindsay has previously held the role of Director with Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT.

Lindsay holds formal qualifications in international communications, politics, law and an MBA from the University of Sydney. Professionally, Lindsay is an experienced senior corporate affairs leader.

Sharon O'Brien- Director, Girl Guides Western Australia

Alecia Hancock - Director

Alecia is an award-winning digital marketing and social media strategist. She founded the award-winning Unite and Change the World events and was director of Hancock Creative for more than 11 years. In her past life she was a journalist and magazine editor and is now a sought-after international speaker, consultant and not-for-profit trainer. Alecia was chosen as one of WA’s most influential people in business by NIFNEX, her business was named WA Telstra Micro Business of the Year WA and won an Australian Web award for Social Media Campaign of the Year. Alecia is also a university lecturer at Notre Dame university.

Chao Qiao- Director

Chao is a financial services professional with broad experience across audit and assurance, risk management, consulting, and business transformation. A Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary, Chao has worked in areas including insurance consulting, actuarial services, technology-led transformation programs, and customer and predictive analytics.

Throughout his career, Chao has supported teams and clients in navigating complex challenges, with a focus on practical solutions that improve performance and build resilience across the financial services sector.
