National Girl Research

The 2024 international IDG theme was “Girls’ Vision for the Future”. This theme emphasised the urgent need for action and the persistent hope driven by the power of girls’ voices and their vision for a better world.

Aligned with the theme, GGA wanted to elevate the voices of girls, by launching the National Girls Survey. This is the first national survey into ‘what it is to be a girl or young woman in Australia’ (aged 12-17yrs).

The complexities of modern girlhood are immense. GGA has commissioned a survey for all Australian girls that investigates the attitudes Australian girls have about many aspects of their lives.

GGA invested in this survey to investigate the attitudes Australian girls have regarding safety on and offline, violence, bullying, technology, environment, image, influences, family, culture, future opportunities and personal wellbeing and development.

In partnership with YouthInsight, GGA developed a 10-15min survey for all Girls to complete by 22 November.

Modibodi and ARACY (Australian Research Association for Children and Youth) helped extend the survey to non-Girl Guides.

Girl Guides Australia and YouthInsight are responsible for managing the data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Key insights and findings can be found in this final report.
