In 2026, the theme is ‘Water Conservation’. For the purposes of the HSS, water conservation is defined as responsible management and efficient use of water resources to ensure sustainable water supplies, to protect biodiversity and ecosystems, and to maintain human well-being.

After the seminar, participants will explore ways to protect water around the world and develop local, regional, or national projects to take action for water conservation.

Here are some examples of change projects that participants could develop after the seminar:

  • Creating an awareness campaign to educate local communities on reducing water waste
  • Organising clean-up efforts to protect rivers, lakes, and drinking water sources
  • Teaching workshops on sustainable water use and conservation techniques
