CSIRO Wild Watch – National Science Week – 2025
Thanks to all the Girl Guides across the country supporting the first National Science Experiment, CSIRO Wild Watch, during National Science Week 2025.
We are excited to share with you the results of this national citizen science initiative. This includes information gained about the CSIRO Wild File priority species, feedback from researchers, and the results of the survey.
Here are some specific metrics about Girl Guide participation in this year’s Wild Watch:
- 133 units registered, which is 11% of the total registrations.
- 52 units registered in iNaturalist which is a 39% conversion, above average for the project overall.
- It is estimated that 709 Girl Guides took part in the experiment.
- Girl Guide Units contributed 542 observations to iNaturalist, which is 6% of the 9,288 observations for the entire project.
- Girl Guide Units contributed a significant finding to the project – 2 units uploaded observations of Gumtree Deceiver Laccaria fraterna which had few prior records in the Atlas of Living Australia and is included in our results overview.
