Volunteer Thank You Letter from the Chief Commissioner 2025

Dear Girl Guide Volunteers,
This International Volunteer Day, we celebrate all Girl Guide volunteers, the extraordinary people whose passion and commitment make it possible for girls to believe they can do anything.
This year’s theme — “Volunteers: every contribution matters” — perfectly captures the impact you as volunteers have every single day.
You are the ones that create the safe, inspiring spaces where girls’ confidence can grow. You are the role models who listen, encourage, challenge, and make a difference to both the girls and the other volunteers you work with. Because of you and all the Guiding volunteers, girls learn to step forward, take risks, and discover strengths they didn’t know they had.
As you reflect back on another busy year, please take a moment to acknowledge and congratulate yourself on the contribution you have made. And because volunteering isn’t just about giving, also consider what you have gained from your volunteering experience this year; did you step out of your comfort zone and find you could do something you didn’t think you could, did you learn a new skill, did you laugh with your coleaders, feel supported by your Guiding friends? Your volunteering makes you the special person that you are.
Today I say a huge thank you. Thank you to every volunteer who has given of their time, energy, and care so generously.
Your contribution really does matter; supporting girls to truly believe they can do anything.
Thank you so much for all you have done this year. You really have made a difference to those around you.
Helen Reid
Chief Commissioner, Girl Guides Australia
