National Team Report – August 2017
We have heard fantastic reports from the variety of Girl Guides attending great international events over the northern hemisphere summer – from Norway to Iceland, and closer to home in Thailand at our Olave Program Three Barges Project. And we are looking forward to welcoming international visitors to our Sydney Jamboree in 2018. The Jamboree website has now launched – have you checked it out? https://sydneyjamboree.girlguides.org.au/
WAGGGS has announced a new, worldwide research project into gender and leadership which will inform our future leadership work. This large-scale research project, with the University of Exeter (UK), will use a global survey to explore attitudes towards leadership in young people, and the adults who support them. Girl Guides Australia is pleased to announce that the new Adult Good Service and Membership Awards System is now in operation. As from 1 July 2017 the new Award system replaces in full the previous system. The new Adult Good Service and Membership Awards System recognises the wonderful contribution members and supporters of Guiding give to our organisation.
It is hoped that the new system will encourage more nominations and we ask that members review the new Awards to familiarise themselves with how to nominate deserving members and supporters. The new awards system can be viewed in full on the Guide Lines website – http://www.guidelinesforgirlguides.org.au Nomination forms which are able to be filled in digitally are now also available on Guidelines.
At the Girl Guides Australia AGM on 24 June, our previous national team was acknowledged for their service to Guiding at State, National and International levels. Past Chief Commissioner Robinette Emonson received the Asia Pacific Adult Achievement Award for Service to Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting; our Assistant Chief Commissioner, Miranda Cummings was awarded a Red Kangaroo, and past Assistant Chief Commissioner, Susan Campbell, was awarded a Silver Kangaroo.
