The 2010 Centenary of Girl Guides is supported by the Australian Government Office for Women
2010 will be an exciting year for all Girl Guide members past and present. Come along and join in the fun in this huge year of celebrations. The activities will reflect on the fascinating history of Guiding, how it has changed over the years and adapted to the times.
This is an invitation to all women who were a member of a Girl Guide Association or Girl Scout Association anywhere in the world and now live in Australia to register your interest in the Centenary of Guiding Celebrations. You may have been a Gumnut (or equivalent), Brownie, Girl Guide, Ranger Guide, Ranger or Leader and would like to join in the celebrations. After Centenary celebration it will be a great time to relax with guiding friends and enjoy a cruise. Check out the Cruise information and fill out an expression of interest form. The cruise is open to all adult members including Leaders, OP, HAAs and Trefoil Guilds.
The Centenary Gold Challenge is for those Guides who want to extend themselves. It is not part of the Centenary Challenge badge but rather an ‘extra challenge’ for those who choose it.
In return for the enormous effort required to complete the Centenary Gold Challenge and the Centenary Challenge badge before 31 December 2010, each Guide who completes both of them is eligible to participate in a special Guiding event. Guides are only able to participate in ONE of these challenge events.

In the Guides Say survey, the environment was rated as a top concern. This year Guides have a genuine opportunity to stop talking about this critical issue and take action by participating in National Tree Planting Day on Sunday 1 August.
Thanks to the Centenary Grant from the Federal Office for Women, Girl Guides Australia is providing funding for native seedlings, seeds and materials for planting and nurturing the trees to maturity.
To date, all Units who have submitted an application form have been successful and will receive funding. However, it is important that more Units get involved in this important centenary initiative. With this in mind, the deadline for applications has been extended to Monday 14 June.
To get involved, complete the attached application form.
Share your memories of events, stories and pictures of Guiding in Australia and contribute to this wonderful Centenary project. Every entry will be considered to make a collection of 100 stories covering our first 100 years. A low cost book will be printed and ready for your 2010 Celebrations.
This is a flagship publication for the Centenary of Guiding in 2010. It will feature women in Guiding from all over Australia, as well as women who can point to Guiding as being influential on their lives and achievements. Living women, and women now deceased who also contributed to our history, will be featured in a full-colour 104 page book. Publication is planned for September 2009.
Each State Girl Guide organisation will hold a reunion event during 2010.
If you have been a Guide member at any time in the last 100 years, you will be eligible to attend a Centenary Girl Guide Reunion. This will be a wonderful time to be reunited with friends from the past and share your great memories of the happy times you spent together as a Gumnut, Brownie, Girl Guide, Ranger Guide, Ranger, Leader or Trefoil Guild member.
Please let Girl Guides Australia know where you are now and what you have done since your time as a Guide.
2010 is rapidly approaching, there is a lot of planning going on behind the scenes to make this a very special year in the history of Guiding happen. Girl Guides Australia appointed Jill Ribbons from South Australia in 2007 as the Coordinator for the Centenary of Guiding for 2010. She is supported by a team of State Coordinators, one from each State, appointed by the State.
2010 is the Centenary of Guiding and the Year of the Girl Guide. To celebrate, why not try our Centenary Challenge?
