UN Climate Change conference, COP 17

The UN Climate Change conference, COP 17, is very nearly upon us and the 17 young women delegates from 15 Member Organizations are already in Durban, participating in the pre-COP youth conference.

WAGGGS will be putting up a section on the website, including daily updates and blogs from the delegates, delegate profiles, films and much more.  Please do follow the Australian delegates and comment on their work. Download Climate Change activities here.

  1. Join the global action on Young and Future Generations Day - On Young and Future Generations Day on 1 December 2011, the youth delegates will perform a special action as part of their lobbying activities.  We would like Girl Guides around the country to join in this action – here is a video demonstrating one of the actions, as well as some suggestions for other actions.  Please do promote this action and join in! Once you have performed the action, please do send WAGGGS a film, photo or story showing/telling us what you have done to comms@waggggsworld.org
  2. Talk to your government and raise awareness about the issues in your communities  – WAGGGS key messages and other communication material are available here and WAGGGS will constantly update this section with the latest information from the COP which you can use to influence decision makers and raise awareness about the issues in your State.
  3. Get the media involved – Would media in your State like to speak to a young woman leader taking action on climate change while she is at this global conference? You could organise for media in your State to speak to your delegate while she is at the conference, or even on her return.  WAGGGS is developing a series of press releases to support the event, and the comms department  will send these through to you as they are finalised, please do adopt them to suit your needs.  Please do call or email comms@waggggsworld.org with any requests and they can support the delegates in Durban with any media work you organise.
