Cancer Council vaccine
Cervical cancer vaccine program
In Australia, girls aged 12-13 are provided the cervical cancer vaccine at school, yet a quarter of them still aren’t getting vaccinated. This is in spite of the fact that the vaccine protects against 70% of cervical cancers.
The reluctance is largely due to a fear of needles, pain (the vaccine includes 3 doses so some girls start but don’t finish the course) and a lack of understanding about what it’s for.
The Cancer Council has developed a new, fun, 4-minute video directly targeting (and starring) young teenage girls that will hopefully alleviate any fears they may have and encourage them to have the potentially life-saving vaccine. You can see the video on the homepage at www.cervicalcancervaccine.org.au.
