Girl Guides Australia unveils new brand as it launches

Girl Guides Australia, the iconic girls-only organisation, is encouraging Australians to take a fresh look at Guiding as Guides across the country prepare to sell a record number of Girl Guide Biscuits in 2010.

Today's Girl Guides program extends beyond traditional activities such as camping – it’s aligned to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and critical world issues such as climate change, poverty, self esteem and bullying, and is part of a global movement with 10 million members in 145 countries.

Guides are girls and young women aged between 5-30 years who have fun, experience adventure, learn to work in teams, develop leadership skills, improve their communities and grow in confidence. The new national motto, Be your best, underpins Guiding in the 21stcentury.

Lynne Price, Girl Guides Australia Chief Commissioner, says with all the choices and pressures facing girls today, Guides offers a special sisterhood where girls and young women can be themselves and achieve their full potential.

“Body image, self esteem and the pressure to succeed and fit in are some of the issues girls today are confronted with from a young age. In our increasingly competitive society, only Girl Guides offers a safe, supportive girls-only space that celebrates each girls’ individuality and encourages her to be her best,” says Ms Price.

With Guides celebrating their Centenary year in 2010, Girl Guide Biscuits have undergone a makeover – with special packaging that celebrates 100 years of changing lives and the Year of the Girl Guide[1].

“June is Girl Guide Biscuit Month, and by purchasing Biscuits from your local Girl Guides, you are investing in a girl’s future by helping her improve her community, grow in confidence, learn leadership and money managing skills and giving her a voice.

“We expect to sell in excess of 800,000 packets of Biscuits this year – that’s a 20 per cent increase from last year and nearly 20 million Biscuits eaten across the country,” says Ms Price.

The new-look Centenary Biscuits are on sale for a limited time only (during May-June 2010), with 100 per cent of the funds raised from each $3.50 packet, including plain, chocolate or choc minis, supporting local and national Guide programs throughout Australia.
